Welcome to MyCV ("the Service", "we", "us", "our"). These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you ("you", "your", "User") and MyCV, operated by the administrator reachable at [email protected] ("Operator").

By accessing, browsing, or using the Service — including creating an account, building a resume as a guest, exporting a document, or visiting a public resume URL — you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service immediately.

1. The Service

MyCV is a free resume builder that lets you:

  • Create, edit, and organize resumes using structured templates.
  • Export resumes to PDF, DOCX, or JPEG.
  • Share resumes publicly (with a custom URL) or privately (with an unlisted link).
  • Verify a WhatsApp number to add a trust badge to public profiles.
  • Use the Service without signing up ("guest mode"), with limited, temporary storage.

The Service is provided as-is and as-available. We may add, remove, or change features at any time without prior notice.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
  • If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has consented to these Terms on your behalf.
  • You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep your account credentials secure.

3. Your Account & Security

3.1 Registration

To unlock permanent storage, public sharing, and WhatsApp verification, you must create an account with a valid email address and a password that meets our minimum strength requirements. You must verify your email before you can sign in.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your password confidential.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.
  • Notifying us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.

We are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from your failure to secure your credentials.

3.3 WhatsApp Verification

WhatsApp verification is optional. If you choose to verify a phone number, it will be linked to your account solely for the purpose of displaying a trust badge and enabling phone-number-based public sharing. You can remove this verification at any time from your Settings.

4. Guest Mode

If you use the Service without signing in:

  • Your resume is stored temporarily, linked only to a random device identifier kept in your browser's localStorage.
  • Guest resumes are automatically deleted 30 days after the last update.
  • Guest resumes cannot be published publicly or via private link, and cannot be recovered once the browser data is cleared or the 30-day window passes.
  • You have no ownership claim, backup right, or recovery option for guest data.

5. Your Content & Responsibility

5.1 You Own Your Content

You retain all intellectual property rights in the text, images, and other materials you put into your resumes ("Your Content"). We do not claim ownership of Your Content.

5.2 License to Operate the Service

By submitting Your Content, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to:

  • Store, render, convert (to PDF / DOCX / JPEG), and transmit Your Content solely to provide the Service to you.
  • Display Your Content to anyone who visits a public or private share URL you have chosen to activate.

This license ends when you delete the resume or your account, except for:

  • Public resumes that search engines or third parties may have cached before you unpublished them.
  • Backups retained for up to 30 days for disaster recovery, after which they are permanently purged.

5.3 You Are Responsible for Your Content

This is critical: You represent and warrant that:

  • You own or have the necessary rights to all of Your Content.
  • Your Content does not infringe any third-party copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other right.
  • Your Content does not contain defamatory, fraudulent, harassing, threatening, obscene, or otherwise unlawful material.
  • Any personal data of third parties (references, employers, phone numbers, emails) included in Your Content has been included with their consent where required by applicable law.

You — not MyCV — are solely responsible for the content of every resume you publish. We do not review, edit, or endorse user content. If you publish illegal or harmful content, you are solely liable.

6. Public Resume Warnings

When you publish a resume using your phone number or email address as the public URL, that identifier becomes part of a publicly accessible web address that:

  • Can be indexed by search engines (Google, Bing, etc.).
  • Can be scraped by bots, recruiters, and data aggregators.
  • Cannot be fully removed from third-party caches once indexed.

We display explicit warnings inside the editor before you enable these options. By proceeding, you accept full responsibility for the exposure. We strongly recommend using the default "generated name" option (e.g., /firstname-lastname-1234) instead.

7. Data Handling & Security Logging

7.1 No Commercial Use of Data

We do not sell, rent, trade, or monetize your personal data. We do not use your data for targeted advertising, analytics, or profiling. We have no commercial interest in your information.

7.2 Purpose of Data Collection

We collect data strictly for two purposes:

  1. Functionality: To allow you to create, save, and export your resumes.
  2. Security: To protect the Service from abuse, DDoS attacks, and malicious actors.

7.3 Security Logs

To maintain the integrity of the Service, we maintain security logs that may include:

  • IP addresses and User-Agents of requests.
  • Timestamps of login attempts and page views.
  • Rate-limit counters and blocklist entries.

These logs are used exclusively for security monitoring and abuse prevention. They are not analyzed for user behavior, marketing, or commercial purposes. We may block IPs or ban accounts that show signs of malicious activity (e.g., scraping, brute-force attacks).

7.4 Data Retention

  • Registered user resumes: Retained until you delete them or your account.
  • Guest resumes: Automatically deleted after 30 days.
  • Export files (PDF/DOCX): Automatically deleted within 10 minutes.
  • Security logs: Retained for a limited period for incident response, then purged.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  1. Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  2. Upload malware, viruses, or code designed to disrupt the Service.
  3. Attempt to probe, scan, or test vulnerabilities of the Service.
  4. Bypass rate limits, authentication, or access controls.
  5. Use automated tools (scrapers, bots) to access the Service in a way that disrupts normal operation.
  6. Impersonate any person or entity.
  7. Create accounts in bulk or for spamming/abuse.
  8. Resell or commercially redistribute access to the Service.
  9. Harass, abuse, or harm another person through content you publish.
  10. Reverse-engineer or decompile the Service code.

9. Rate Limiting & Abuse Protection

To protect the Service, we enforce automated rate limits on:

  • Account sign-ups and email verifications.
  • Password reset requests.
  • WhatsApp verification codes.
  • PDF / DOCX / JPEG exports.
  • General API and page requests.

Exceeding these limits may result in temporary throttling or permanent IP/User blocking. We reserve the right to block any IP or User ID that we determine, in our sole discretion, is misbehaving or threatening the security of the Service.

10. Termination and Suspension

10.1 By You

You may delete any resume at any time from the "My Resumes" page. To delete your entire account, contact [email protected].

10.2 By Us

We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice:

  • Suspend or terminate your account.
  • Remove any content.
  • Block your IP address, email, or user ID.

Reasons include (but are not limited to):

  • Breach of these Terms.
  • Abuse of the Service, other users, or the Operator.
  • Use of the Service for illegal, fraudulent, or harmful purposes.
  • Any behavior that we determine is a security risk to the Service.

Where reasonable, we will notify you by email before termination.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS-IS" AND "AS-AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE ABOVE, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or free of viruses.
  • Your resumes will always be available, unaltered, or correctly rendered.
  • Exports (PDF / DOCX / JPEG) will exactly match the on-screen preview.
  • Public URLs will remain stable forever.
  • Any third-party service (email delivery, WhatsApp, hosting) will remain operational.
  • The content you publish will achieve any particular result (e.g., getting a job interview).

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE OPERATOR, ITS CONTRIBUTORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE — WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR OTHERWISE — SHALL NOT EXCEED USD $50 OR THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. BECAUSE THE SERVICE IS FREE, THIS CAP WILL TYPICALLY BE USD $50.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Operator and its contributors from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of the Service.
  • Your Content, including any resume you publish publicly.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your violation of any right of a third party.
  • Any claim that Your Content caused damage to a third party.

14. Third-Party Services and Links

14.1 Infrastructure

The Service relies on third-party infrastructure, including but not limited to:

  • MongoDB (database hosting).
  • Resend (transactional email delivery).
  • WhatsApp (via a self-hosted connection) for verification codes.

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of these third-party services.

14.2 External Links in Resumes

Resumes built with the Service often contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party site.

14.3 Donations

The /donate page displays cryptocurrency wallet addresses provided by the Operator. Donations are voluntary, irreversible, and not exchanged for any product or service.

15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Operator is established. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall first be attempted to be resolved informally by contacting [email protected]. If informal resolution fails within 30 days, the dispute shall be submitted to the competent courts of the Operator's jurisdiction.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the effective date of the current version. We will notify registered users of material changes via email where feasible. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Operator regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
